Hello all - I have had two "modern" pins for about 8 years now. Star Trek 25th and and South Park. When I got these machines, they both pretty much worked. I was able to make mecahnical and electrical repairs to both machines to make then 100% (Sweet right?) okay Maybe you are not impressed
I recently bought an Orbitor 1 from ebay, and it showed up in really bad operating condition.
Repaired the terminal block on the Sol driver to fix the flickering display (one down LOL)
The machine boots, but has a bad sound issue (a huge BUZZ at power up and then barely audible. Turning up the volume simply produces the boot buzz continually)
There are several playfield lights out, and MANY switches not responding during diag.
The MPU beeps/blinks the seven required times.
The machine will not coinup.
The center (Middle one of the 5) had been displaying 00000027, and lately is showing 03000037
that should correspond to avg. play time, credits, and ball in play.
(sigh) Armed with Marvin's pinball repair guide, I am ready to operate, but since I am an untested surgeon, I don't not want to kill my sick patient.
I am ready to roll my sleeves up and dive in, I just need the expertise that you all possess.
Oh !!! here is some more background
Yes yes the battery has leaked, someone hacked an nicad fix onto it. There is some grey solder on several components. I know that I should fix that, but nothing seems to be destroyed yet.
The solenoid board has a ton of lifted traces. I reflowed/soldered the worst (cracked severed) of them to at least stabilize the board for testing ALL THE COILS SEEM TO WORK FINE during diag !!!!
The lamp driver is in good visual shape, but during the trip to my house... a few of those three-legged spider thingys (transistors right ?) were flattened on top of themselves - easliy looked like they could be shorted. I pulled them all carefully back upright, but unfortunately not before I powered it up a few times ( ima newb) ><
I found a ceramic cap in the bottom of the machine, I am guessing that it "fell" or was cut off of one of the switch circuits.
Help me o-pinball-wiards....
.... you're my only hope.
Pics, videos, and donaions furnished upon request, with the exception of donations which require a negotiation
